John Dickson & Son Round Action 12ga











- Description
Serial #5802, number 1 of a pair made in 1905 with Damascus tubes, it was re-barreled with 28” fluid steel tubes by Dickson in the 1950’s. The chambers were opened from 2 1/2” to 2 3/4” and reproofed in 1984. Bright bores and chambers that measure .738” and .739”; Choked .012” and .021”( sk2 and tight mod) . Minimum wall thickness is .022”and 024”. Striking is beautiful with a light flare at the chokes, solder rings like a bell.
Re-blacked at some point over some light pitting by the forend tip . 99% condition.
Action is tight on breech, good trigger pulls , strong ejectors. 95% scroll engraving coverage . This is the 3rd and definitive design of the trigger plate round action . Screw slots show some use but in line with the age of the gun. Weight is 6# 8 oz and the gun balances at the hinge pin.
LOP is 14 3/4” over a 1/2” checkered water Buffalo horn plate. Drop is 1 1/2” and 2 1/2” with 3/16” cast off . The wood is not oil soaked and in very good condition.
A nice and ready-for-the-field example of one of the best known Scottish shotguns!
